Sunrise Project

Sunrise Project is the perfect Lawrence local organization to be highlighted with the pieces from the Discovery Collection. Sunrise Project is a community-driven organization that provides space and opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to create social change, learn from one another, build skills, make new connections and have fun! The Community Garden at Sunrise Project seeks to help remove the barriers that prevent some people from growing their own food by providing the space, knowledge and skills to help them be successful. They’ve even built 4 wheelchair and sitter friendly beds so that people of all physical abilities and disabilities can access, work in and harvest from Sunrise Community Garden. The Discovery Collection stemmed from my first experience growing food, I had no idea how important that first garden would be in my personal growth and I invite you to help Sunrise Project provide that opportunity to others in our community.

Friends of the KAW

Friends of the Kaw (FOK) serves the Kansas River, known locally as the Kaw. The Kansas River is the largest prairie-based river system in the world. FOK is dedicated to protecting the river from pollution sources including: municipal and industrial wastewater discharges, new pollution sources and in river commercial sand and gravel mining. For almost thirty years, our water-focused friends group has been the only grassroots conservation group dedicated to protecting the Kansas River. Our members come from rural, urban, and suburban areas and represent canoers, kayakers, fisherfolk, hunters, birdwatchers, and locals who love the river.

Because the Tributary Collection is inspired by humanities connection to rivers and my closest connection to them is the KAW, Friends of the KAW is the obvious organization to highlight. We are fortunate to live in North Lawrence, where the soil is the envy of all gardeners, due to the KAW riverbottom, and donating to the protection of it would be my honor.
